Brains, Brawn & Bravado: Mind, Body & Spirit in Character Development

In this workshop, you will learn how to identify mind, body, and spirit symbolism in character personalities. Once you can identify the traits, you can then apply them to the character development in your own work. Examples range from classics like The Great Gatsby to modern works like The Hunger Games and even to film. You will also learn how to use mind, body, and spirit characters to guide the transformation of a fourth character, such as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol or D'Artagnan in The Three Muketeers.

Brains, Brawn & Bravado: Mind, Body & Spirit in World Building

This workshop builds on the basic mind, body, and spirit concepts from the character development workshop. While you do not need to have seen the character development workshop to understand this one, you will probably get more out of it if you have.

In this workshop, you will learn how to layer mind, body, and spirit characters in order to create richer environments. You will also learn how to apply the symbolism to larger groups and populations in your stories, as well as how to integrate the symbolism into the conflict of your story.

Let There Be Light: Revealing Your World

Whether your story is set in modern New York City or a galaxy far, far away, the way you reveal that world to your reader has a huge effect on your reader's enjoyment of your writing. In this workshop, you will learn how to use techniques like incremental revelation and expansion to draw your reader into your world and your story, keeping them enthralled and ready to turn the next page.
